How to Connect with Global Talent in Edmonton

by Mahary Gregory

My name is Mahary Gregory, I am a civil engineer at Jacobs Canada Inc.  The first time I heard about ERIEC was through Evgueni Tormantovski, a colleague who introduced and invited me to an ERIEC working meeting.

What was my first impression?

I was quite impressed with the preparation that had been undertaken by ERIEC to introduce and guide new professional immigrants to the employment opportunities available in Edmonton in particular and surrounding communities in general.   The employment seeking candidates were also well prepared, coming from diversified fields of profession, as well as background.  In my opinion exchange of information and goals and objectives of profession seekers were the important driving incentives of the meeting.

Why would I recommend firms seeking technical assistance to explore and acquaint themselves with ERIEC?

Most certainly ERIEC should be considered as a valuable resource to recruit technical staff who are eager to contribute not only to their fields of expertise in particular but to the country as a whole. The new immigrants bring with them valuable education and work experience from different parts of the world. I was amazed at the desire to go forward and succeed as displayed by the job-seeking candidates; they all indicate this attitude in their endeavours. Some of the candidates have gone through many obstacles to reach Canada and Edmonton and are still willing to endure hard work and further education, if required, to achieve their dreams of employment and contribution to Canada. Indeed one can feel assured to know that the future will have such contributors.

Why employers should consider enrolling in mentoring and networking programs with ERIEC?

These are valuable technical resource programs where talent, knowledge and even experience can be sought and recruited by prospective employers.  This is an important networking opportunity that puts within reach valuable and diversified resources.  Simple face to face contact and interchange of information is highly effective as a tool of recruitment.  The experience has a noticeable uplifting effect on job seekers as well.
