It's been 6 months since I arrived in Canada. I landed in Canada at the end of April 2023. During my second month of arrival, I heard about the ERIEC connector program during the EMCN online work shop, and I directly contacted and met Shashi Shashikanth, who was the connector program coordinator at the time. So I registered for this program.
The Connector Program is a formalized networking initiative that helps professional immigrants broaden their professional network through one-on-one meetings with established business leaders who work in the same field.
ERIEC provides opportunities for its connectees through different events. that gives us a chance to connect with professionals in our field of expertise. In July, I was attending one of the "ERIEC and RBC Networking Events, “and I had a chance to meet amazing professionals who are in my field of expertise.
Connecting with ERIEC was very effective, and I was able to get my first mentorship within less than a month after I started the connector program. As a newcomer, I found a connector program very helpful to get connected to people in my area of expertise. I learned valuable lessons about career development, a resume, and a cover letter.
My first mentorship session with Alexandria Onyedika was very successful, and she was very supportive and gave me insight and direction on how to be successful in my field of expertise. and she helped me to connect with Folake Okusanya, who was helping me a lot during the journey.
I am really grateful to the ERIEC team for their kind support and guidance, especially for Shashi Shashikanth. She has been very professional, supportive, and responsive to every inquiry I had. I would like to thank her and the program for all the support I have received so far.and also I want to thank Monica Macedo my ERIEC mentor for her wonderful direction.
On September 20, 2023, I got my first job offer in Canada at RBC Royal Bank of Canada ,as a Client advisor part time-permanent position!
Once again, I would like to thank the ERIEC team, especially Shashi Shashikanth. And my mentors, Alexandria Onyedika and Folake Okusanya.for their greatest help and support through my journey.
