We are only a few weeks before the 2013 RISE (Recognizing Immigrant Success in Edmonton) Awards. Since 2004, the RISE Awards have been given out to recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of immigrants in our city and as well as to those who support them along the way. Hosted by the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN) with the assistance and support from ERIEC, this annual celebration brings together individuals, organizations, government and community to celebrate local success stories.
This year’s keynote speaker is Mr. Stephen Lewis, a celebrated humanitarian and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa and a distinguished visiting professor at Ryerson University.
Mr. Lewis is one of Canada’s most influential commentators on social affairs, international development and human rights. He has been named by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world (he was cited in the category which included The Dalai Lama, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, and Nelson Mandela).
Highlights of this year’s anniversary event include: words from Premier Alison Redford and Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor; a multicultural buffet dinner; and local cultural entertainment and talent from Edmonton!
We invite everyone to join us so we can acknowledge their important achievements and the contributions that they bring to the larger Edmonton community.
This year’s RISE Awards will be taking place on:
