Arriving in Canada in January 2024 was the start of an exciting new chapter for me. But like many newcomers, I soon realized that breaking into my profession here would be more challenging than I had imagined. Despite my best efforts, countless job applications led to numerous rejections. Staying positive was tough, but I knew I couldn’t give up.
Everything changed when a friend introduced me to ERIEC. After exploring their website, I decided to join their Career Mentorship Program (CMP)—a choice that transformed my career trajectory.
Through the CMP, I attended workshops that deepened my understanding of Canadian workplace culture and professional communication. ERIEC also connected me with an incredible network of professionals, opening doors to invaluable opportunities.
A turning point came when I was paired with my mentor, Marjorie Hibbert. Marjorie’s expertise and guidance were nothing short of transformative. She helped me craft a modern, eye-catching resume and taught me how to write compelling, tailored cover letters that stood out. Through mock interviews, she equipped me with the confidence and skills to excel in real interview scenarios.
With persistence, continuous learning, and the unwavering support of ERIEC and Marjorie, I achieved a major milestone: in September 2024, I began a remote position as a Climate Science Expertise AI Trainer with Outlier, a Software Development company based in San Francisco, USA. This role aligns perfectly with my passion and expertise, and it feels like the start of something truly special.
