ERIEC Mentee Success Story: Habiba Kehinde

Career Mentorship Program - August 2022 Cohort

Settling in a new country can be challenging and I recognized that as I began to prepare to move to Canada with my family. I signed up for some pre-arrival programs and my advisor mentioned the ERIEC Connector program.

A few weeks after landing, I signed up with ERIEC and had a session with a Connector. Our session gave me some insights into the career path I planned to pursue here in Canada and the relevant certifications.

I went on to sign up for ERIEC’s Career Mentorship Program (CMP). Through the CMP workshops, which are part of the program, I was able to learn more about Canadian workplace culture. Through the group discussions in the workshops, I learned more about communication styles and how to increase my chances of success in the workplace.

I was then matched with a Mentor, and our sessions where we reviewed my resume were helpful. She shared in-depth tips on how to tailor my resume for each job posting. It was an eye-opener and changed the way I prepared my resume for job applications.

ERIEC has been a big part of my journey so far and helped me set short and long-term career goals. A few months after arriving, I got a job in my area of expertise and look forward to building my career here in Canada.

I appreciate the kindness and thoroughness of the ERIEC team. Besides the sessions with the connector and mentor, I also had my resume reviewed in my program interview and received helpful pointers for interviews. The entire program was encouraging and helped me gain more confidence in my skills and experience.
