Sixteen years ago the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN) began a tradition that would celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of newcomers, immigrants, individuals and local organizations for their commendable service to building strong community.
Last Thursday,October 10th, 2019, EMCN hosted the 16th Annual RISE Awards Gala at the Edmonton Expo Centre. The RISE Awards Gala was an inspirational and memorable evening enriched with culture, live performances and an outstanding array of multi-cultural buffet.
The Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) received the BUILDING FUTURES AWARD. This award recognizes a group or organization that demonstrates an exceptional commitment to innovative engagement with immigrants, with the goal of creating a more welcoming and inclusive community for all. Doug Piquette, received the award and emphasized the importance of diversity and its contribution in the city’s success and in the province of Alberta.
As a token for the award, ERIEC received a stunning painting made by Gibril Bangura. ERIEC also extends our congratulations to the rest of the award recipients for their dedication and commitment in building inclusive and welcoming communities.
