Relocating to a new country is a journey filled with challenges, and starting fresh in Canada was no different for me. Like many newcomers, I faced uncertainties about how to navigate the job market, transfer my skills, and adapt to a new professional environment. Seeking guidance, I turned to ERIEC’s Connector Program—and it was one of the best decisions I made.
Through the Connector Program, I connected with a local professional who shared valuable insights into transferring my experience as a Network Administrator into the Canadian job market. They helped me understand which certifications could enhance my employability and gave me a clear roadmap for professional growth.
Building on this momentum, I joined ERIEC’s Career Mentorship Program (CMP). The program's Intercultural Workshops, facilitated by NorQuest College, were eye-opening. These sessions taught me about Canadian workplace culture, professional communication, and networking best practices—skills that are essential for thriving in this new environment.
A pivotal moment came when I was paired with Freddie Martinez, my mentor in the CMP. Freddie’s guidance was transformational. Together, we refined my resume to meet Canadian standards, strengthened my job application strategy, and practiced for interviews. His practical advice gave me the confidence to face challenges head-on.
Before my mentorship period ended, I was thrilled to secure a position as a Computer Network Administrator at St-Albert Cheese in Ottawa. While I initially aimed to work in Edmonton, this opportunity is an exciting first step in my Canadian career. I look forward to starting this September and building a foundation for future growth.
ERIEC’s programs and their dedicated mentors played an instrumental role in my success. From the initial guidance of the Connector Program to the personalized support of the Career Mentorship Program, they made my transition into the Canadian workforce smoother and more empowering than I could have imagined.
To anyone considering a fresh start in Canada, I wholeheartedly recommend exploring ERIEC’s programs—they truly open doors to success!
