The Career Mentorship Program (CMP) connects newcomer immigrant professionals (mentees) in the Edmonton region with established professionals and local business leaders (mentors) who share a similar occupational background, fostering real-life connections and valuable experience.
Omorinola Fakayode, an ERIEC Mentee, shares her story:
"A few months before I moved to Canada, I enrolled in pre-arrival programs designed for new immigrants. One of the recommended organizations to assist me in seamlessly integrating into the Canadian labour market was the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC), which offers mentorship and networking programs.
Upon arriving in Edmonton, I promptly applied for the ERIEC mentorship program. My résumé and LinkedIn profile were skillfully reviewed at no cost by ERIEC’s then Mentorship Facilitator, Zoila García. Thereafter, I was paired with a career mentor, Dan García, who specializes in my field. Dan provided invaluable guidance, and was thorough, alleviating all my concerns about navigating my career, which I consider quite niche. In no time, I was introduced to professionals in my field who also offered insights into the specifics of my specialty in Canada. Meeting Dan was a game changer for me as he consistently reviewed my résumés and cover letters for each job application, and thoroughly prepared me for my job interviews.
Furthermore, my journey to securing my first psychometric role in Canada would be incomplete without acknowledging the instrumental role played by my mentor. I extend my heartfelt thanks to ERIEC for offering such an enlightening, impactful, and worthwhile mentorship program.
Once again, I want to express my gratitude to the ERIEC staff and my fantastic mentor, Dan García, for their continuous assistance throughout the program!"
