The Career Mentorship Program (CMP) matches newcomer immigrant professionals (mentees) in the Edmonton region with established professionals and local business leaders/employers (mentors) who share a similar occupational background and create networks through real-life connections and experience.
The correspondence below was received by ERIEC in March of 2023 from a mentee:
Dear ERIEC Staff,
I am pleased to inform you that I was offered a job as the Customs and Logistics Coordinator, and I am scheduled to start on Monday.
Wholeheartedly, I want to thank the ERIEC team for this mentorship opportunity. As a newcomer, through this program, I am in a better position to better understand the Canadian work culture.
My ERIEC mentor, Maidul, is excellent and very passionate about mentoring. Whatever information becomes available, he is willing to share it with me. Even after applying for several positions without a response, he is there to champion me, providing words of encouragement. He was very helpful and supportive in finding a job in my field.
Undoubtedly, we will face some challenges when moving to a new country where there is no one to guide us or even do a simple check-up; this, in itself, can make you become demotivated and demoralized. It is an amazing feeling to know that there is someone that cares and is willing to guide and support you, and that is Maidul.
Thanks again, ERIEC, and hopefully one day (after I have some more experience) I, too, will become a mentor.
Sincerely,
Craig R.
