A message from the University of Alberta

This message is to tell you about a study being conducted at the University of Alberta by Dr. Martin Guardado.

The purpose of this study is to learn about how mixed language families in Alberta use their languages in daily life.

Am I eligible to participate?

You are eligible to participate in this study if you are:

An adult who has formed a family with a partner who speaks a mother tongue that is different from yours (you are a mixed language couple).

Additional characteristics:

● Your native language (mother tongue) is not English

● You have at least one child under 19 years of age

If you do not personally fit the description above but know someone who does, kindly pass this information along to them.

What does my participation involve?

Participation involves taking part in an online interview via Zoom which will last 30-60 minutes. The information collected during the interview will be kept confidential, and no names or other identifying information will be used.

As a small token of appreciation, participants will be offered a $10 digital gift card to be sent electronically after completion of each component of the study (interview: $10; observations: $10; survey: $10).

Your participation is voluntary. Whether or not you participate in this study will have no effect on your relationship with the person who forwarded you this information.

If you are interested in learning more about this study, feel free to contact me, Silvia Bégin at [email protected], or Dr. Guardado at [email protected].
